A Taguig City official said yesterday 10 barangay captains were appointed following the creation of 10 new barangays in the city.

Councilor Allan Paul Cruz said Art Flores of Barangay North Daanghari; Willie Hernandez of South Daanghari; Pedro Sedan of South Signal; Richard Paul Jordan of North Signal; Olympia de la Cruz of Barangay Katuparan; Nixon Faderog of New Lower Bicutan; Boyet Silvestre of San Miguel; Manding Lopez of Fort Bonifacio; Rolando Regalado of Pinagsama; and Necito Delvo of Sitio Central Bicutan were sworn into office recently.

Earlier, Cruz said no elections will be held in the 10 new barangays and that the mayor will be the one to appoint those who will serve as leaders in these areas.

The city government held a plebiscite last Dec. 12 concerning the creation of 10 new barangays. Taguig voters affirmed the creation of the new barangays by virtue of City Ordinance Nos. 24-27, 57-61, 67-69, and 78.

Taguig City now has a total of 28 barangays.

Mayor Sigfrido Tiñga said some of the barangays had to be subdivided because they had over 100,000 residents, making it difficult to ensure that services are promptly delivered to their constituents.

He said the creation of new barangays will ensure the effective management of the growing number of residents in Taguig, as well as ensure the effective delivery of health, education and security services. – Rhodina Villanueva
