Metro

Parade to kick off Muntinlupa Day

-
No, it is not the Metro Manila Film Festival extravaganza that you will see parading on the streets of Muntinlupa on March 1.

The colorful parade of floats and street dancing are actually just part of the festivities that will kick off at the city’s 9th charter anniversary.

Tomorrow, all roads lead to city hall after President Arroyo declared March 1 of every year as a special non-working holiday in the city for its Charter Day. Thus, streets will be filled with people and spectators to view the festivities the entire day.

The traditional Parade of Festivals will be participated in by the nine barangays of the city. Residents will be showcasing various themes such as the Samahang Batya Festival, Barangay Alabang; Kasaganaan sa Kinabukasan Festival, Ayala, Alabang; Bulaklakan Festival, Bayanan; Tulyahan Festival, Poblacion; Sambayanihan Festival, Putatan; Biyaya sa Bukid at Dagat Festival, Sucat; Tumana Festival, Tunasan; Banyahan Festival, Cupang and Buli.

In the morning dance tilt, talented students from 14 public elementary and secondary schools will be competing.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi will lead the awarding of 10 outstanding business firms in the city, 10 outstanding non-government organizations and 10 outstanding city hall employees.

A medical mission will be held, sponsored by Mercury Drug Corp., to benefit 2,000 poor constituents in the city. Free medicine, vitamins and medical check-ups will be provided.

Fresnedi is expected to deliver his 9th state of the city address at 6 p.m. attended by city officials, employees and concerned constituents.
