As new public market opens new traffic scheme in parts of Mandaue

CEBU, Philippines - In preparation for this Sunday’s opening of the new public market at the back of the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Center at the Reclamation Area, the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (TEAM) will conduct a dry run for jeepneys and tricycles that are allowed to transport people to and from the market.

Team director Maj. Edwin Ermac yesterday said all jeepneys and tricycles that will traverse the North Reclamation Area will be required to pass by the new public market.

The new traffic scheme being introduced by the TEAM requires all jeepneys bound for Ouano Street in barangay Looc, barangay Opao coming from A. Del Rosario Street shall make a right turn to B. Ceniza Street, right turn to A. Soriano Avenue, make a U-turn at the U-turn slot in corner W. O Seno Street and A. Soriano Avenue, make a right turn to the new public market, then exit to P. Burgos Street, right turn to C. Ouano Street, and then to destination.

All jeepneys bound for Ouano coming from A. Del Rosario Street shall make a right turn to B. Ceniza Street, right turn to A. Soriano Avenue, make a U-turn at the U-turn slot in corner W. O Seno Street, A. Soriano Avenue, make a right turn to the new public market then exit to P. Burgos Street, left turn to Gomez Street, right turn to S. B. Cabahug Street and to its destination.

All other jeepneys coming from A. Del Rosario Street shall make a right turn to B. Ceniza Street, left turn to Gomez Street, left turn to S. B. Cabahug Street, and to destination.

All tricycles bound for barangays Looc, Umapad, Opao, Labogon, Paknaan, and other northern barangays coming from the old public market in barangay Centro shall turn right to S. B. Cabahug Street, to the new public market then exit to P. Burgos Street then to destination.

All tricycles bound for barangays Maguikay, Casuntingan, Tipolo, Banilad, Subangdaku, Cabancalan, and Canduman that enter the old public market shall turn right to S. B. Cabahug Street, to the new public market then exit to P. Burgos Street, then left turn to Zamora Street then right turn B. Ceniza Street, and then to destination.

Team imposes a “no entry” from corner S. B. Cabahug Street and P. Gomez Street up to  corner P. Gomez Street and P. Burgos Street.

All jeepneys from Ouano Avenue passing A. Soriano shall turn right to the new Mandaue public market and exit, right turn to Burgos Street, turn to corner A. Soriano Avenue, and then to destination.

Ermac said once the dry run proves to be successful, an ordinance will be drafted.

If approved by the city council, it will then be the basis for a permanent traffic route leading to the new public market. – Flor Z. Perolina
