A breadwinner when she was only seven years old, you can say that Andrea Brillantes, the child star of Goin’ Bulilit and hit TV series Kadenang Ginto fame and TikTok star who popularized dance trends like the remix of Buttons and Binibining Marikit, had to put luck on her side.

Born Blythe Daguio Gorostiza, she shares, “Earliest memories ko is nagma-makeup ako, nagpapaganda ako para sa customers kahit na bibili lang naman sila ng mga gamot.”

“Natuto ako mag-makeup ng mag-isa ng 10 years old. Ako na nag ma-makeup sa sarili ko ever since, sa ASAP, sa photoshoots,” she looks back. “It’s a part of me. It’s my passion din along with acting.”

Lucky Beauty’s debut line ranges from P299 for the Brow Grip to P549 for the Skin Blur Powder Foundation.

Now 19, she turned what others may see as setbacks into a chance to be creative. She harnessed the empowering power of makeup and fashion and ended up creating a signature look — feathered, fluffy brows, a dewy flush, and a velvety complexion. Perfected through years of doing it herself, she has narrowed down her tried-and-tested routine into the six products of her brand Lucky Beauty.

Do we really need another celebrity beauty brand?

For Lucky Beauty’s Brow Grip alone, yes. The water-resistant clear gel conditions and laminates for Brillantes’ signature feathered look, even if you’re not so blessed with full brows.

“Hindi sticky. Long-lasting. Kaya niya ma-fix yung shape ng kilay mo sa gusto mo na shape. Durable sa pawis,” she says, describing her favorite.

Its applicator has a spoolie end and a flat end that creates a hold that is neither crispy nor limp; something previously only found at higher price points, achievable with multiple, non-brow products, or as an in-salon treatment. Lucky Beauty’s Brow Grip is only P299.

Lipsticks have always been a beauty brand’s debut product. Lucky Beauty ditches this formula with something that fits Brillantes’ Gen Z audience — and suggests a new way of wearing lip products for all ages. The Dewy Lip Stain is a hydrating lip tint with a juicy shine that leaves a flattering, no-maintenance tint on the lips. Its dual applicator allows custom finishes — fluffy for a controlled application and a silicone side for a sheer finish.

The radiance and warmth of a good sweat without the hulas and stickiness is The Pressed Highlighter in a sleek compact. The gel-powder formula comes in four shades and is ultra-fine with absolutely no chunky shimmer. It applies blindingly bright even with no prep, and stays that way even without setting.

The Serum Concealer and Skin Blur Powder Foundation both come in nine shades. They also provide an answer on how to come up with Brillantes’ velvety complexion without filters: first, hydrate. That’s what her concealer does; cooling and smoothening like a skincare product while providing buildable coverage. Then set, cover, or blot with the medium-to-full coverage mattifying powder.

Last in the lineup is the Blush and Lip Cream. It comes in nine shades with a stamp-like applicator.

More than makeup

Brillantes’ story isn’t one of overnight success. Despite her brand’s name, she declares, “Hindi ito sinwerte lang. Tiyaga ‘to.” That experience and care makes its way to the products — something she intends to expand into a skincare line within the next few years.

The price points are also accessible; the Skin Blur Powder Foundation, for its quality, is a good deal at P549. An intentional decision to spread that lucky feeling to everyone who needs it.

“Lucky is a wearable lucky charm,” she reiterates her brand’s tagline. “Pag may lucky charm yung tao, sobrang confident, feeling invincible. Pag maganda makeup ko, feeling ko talagang invincible ko. Kahit hindi ako sineswerte, feeling ko ang swerte ko kasi ang ganda ko parin. Kahit hulas, hindi ako nahuhulas. Masaya ako kasi I feel so beautiful.”
