Now that travel restrictions are being lifted around the world and most are vaccinated and raring to go, photographer extraordinaire Peter Beard lives on in the collective imagination of an invincible summer adventure and as the main inspiration of Tod’s men’s spring 2022 collection.

“I was thinking about the idea of exploring,” creative director Walter Chiapponi has said of the collection. “Not only the faraway places that you’ve never visited. But also exploring anew places that you’ve always known and that you haven’t been able to go to because of the travel restrictions we’ve endured. You see familiar places with new eyes, as if they were new discoveries.”

The shoes, bags and belts are all soft and capacious in natural leathers, some combined with weaves or embroidery on canvas that get better with time. They’re all fit for a safari like the collection’s muse, to view architectural wonders like the Cantina Petra office in the Tuscan countryside (it is the location of this collection’s film entitled “Under the Italian Sun”), or an under-the-radar domestic destination to see a new side of home. Just like the sport-inflected, soft-tailored uniforms in the collection, the accessories are a sophisticated take on casual that won’t look out of place when styled with your urban uniform; a reminder of “that summer” you always remember to bring some shine into your life (or Beard’s documentary of the same name).

The brand isn’t big on logos, but the iconic letter “T” shares the spotlight with a discreet placement of the brand’s lion’s head motif. The palette is neutral and slightly faded as if sun-kissed, conveying a feel of leisurely time spent in the open air. Nothing is too precious; these pieces are meant to be lived in.
