MANILA, Philippines — Rustan’s Makati launches Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn Kids, and West Elm in celebration of chef and restaurateur Happy Ongpauco - Tiu’s 20th year in the food industry. A perfect fit, according to the brands, since she’s one of their top customers.

Happy prepared tablescapes using pieces from the newest coastal-inspired collections. She lays down her rules: “Set a theme. Everything else follows.”

“I like using a lot of fresh flowers, but you can also mix it up with artificial ones,” she adds, using Pottery Barn’s faux botanicals with a vintage effect. For her Pottery Barn table, she used pieces from the brand’s Global Collection called Casa Nomad like the Del Sol dinnerware, made of sturdy melamine, as well as pieces from the On the Rocks glassware collection, also made for outdoor use but just as inviting for indoors. The tall and slender Maxwell Lantern, best paired with flameless candles to completes the look and feel of bringing the outdoors in.

Her West Elm Halden Wood + Metal Collection table is also blooming. “You can’t go wrong with roses. They always look good,” she comments, also going beyond the dinnerware category. “I used paper holders as the vase.”

West Elm’s Scandinavian-inspired pieces are made for al fresco entertaining, complete with roomy dining tables and tablescapes featuring the Aaron Probyn Melamine dinnerware in pink grapefruit, citrus yellow, and silver pine and West Elm’s Gold Flatware. Outdoor sectionals and lounge chairs from the brand’s Playa Collection features a slim profile and modern finish, also inspired by the clean lines of Scandi design.

Just in time for Easter brunch, a highlight in Pottery Barn Kid’s spring/summer collection is a collaboration with renowned designer Monique Lhuillier. Her Easter Tabletop Collection includes shatterproof plates and tumblers, placemats, napkins, and tablecloth, whimsically designed with rabbits surrounded by flowers that celebrate all things spring.

Happy’s growing food empire of dining concepts like Pamana, Hawaiian BBQ, World Topps, Tsokolateria, and Bento Box now includes the addition of a passion project, The Dining Room, where we can see her doing more of these tablescapes. Guests can choose a private dining room located in Greenhills, Makati, Roxas Boulevard, and Tagaytay where she offers a totally bespoke experience including menus of bone china, silverware, and glassware that you can choose from. She also launched Mini Manners Manila, a finishing center offering mini or capsule prorams on dining etiquette, social graces, and other courses for kids as well as adults with Ana Roces and China Jocson. In her own way she is upholding her family’s Barrio Fiesta legacy of warm hospitality, of serving “staple yet timeless” food.
