OJ served fresh
MANILA, Philippines — First launched in 2007, Bench’s denim line Overhauled Jeans a.k.a. OJ has proven its status as a classic. The Bench Playground runway is transformed into a live version of Bench’s billboards, decorated with a Disney-meets-daring collage by Scottish artist and writer Portis Wasp, with Bench’s A-listers making their way down in reinvented denim pieces.
The Canadian Tuxedo — the timeless pairing of a tailored jean jacket and pants — is a trend to look out for. Juliana Gomez and Leila Alcasid channeled bohemian chic with dark denim jacket and loose jean combos; Leila’s are given a feminine touch with a ruffled hem. Kim Chiu wears the same pair but with nothing but a crop top — accessorized with a very ‘90s navel ring — demonstrating its versatility, whatever your style may be.
Wearing it well in the boy’s department is David Licauco, keeping it daytime-ready with a navy and white striped tee and cuffed white denims.
Donning the more polished elements favored by the modern-day Parisienne, Gabbi Garcia paired her jacket with an A-line denim skirt and a beret. Maymay Entrata dressed down a side-striped plaid blazer with distressed fringed jeans and a scarf tied around her neck.
The boys wear it well, too. Diego Loyzaga and Ruru Madrid wore their slim OJ Daily Ware collection denim jeans — the major jean fits from the line — accented with a scarf and tailored jackets.
Denim has long been an urban uniform. For OJ’s latest collection, streetwear’s influence is also evident. Julia Barretto and Ylona Garcia kept their denim looks athletic with bomber jackets; Julia in culottes and sneakers while Ylona paired it with cuffed jeans in Relaxed from the OJ Daily Ware collection and strappy stilettos. Pinoy Big Brother alum Edward Barber unbuttoned the rest of his oversized denim jacket to give us a glimpse of the prints on his sleeves. Young JV’s tailored denim jacket is reworked with typography.
OJ has been a wardrobe essential for more than a decade now and its latest collection keeps it fresh and current for Bench’s new generation of style stars.
