Young Star

Super Mario

Margarita Buenaventura - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - We’re pretty sure that if we get away with it, we’d file enough vacation leaves to travel the world for at least a year. (Is this possible? Time to check with HR.) But while an unli-holiday remains a pipe dream, short trips out of Manila seem to be the way to go. And if you ask us, we’d pay good money for a quick jaunt to Bangkok any day.

No, it’s not just because we’ve been charmed by Thai superstar Mario Maurer. (Okay, he helped a bit.) A few weeks ago, Mario Maurer came to visit Manila as a part of the Thai tourism campaign “Experience Thailand with Mario.” He’s a familiar face to thousands of Filipinos, who flocked to see their favorite Thai actor break hearts in real life. During the meet-and-greet event, the star of hit movie Crazy Little Thing Called Love got to mingle with his fans and show them why his homeland should be everyone’s go-to travel destination. During the program, one winner, Julius Carbajos Cantor, even got to win a trip to Thailand, all expenses paid.

This is just one of the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s four-country trip to attract young wanderlusters to visit Thailand. Launched last April, the campaign will also have Mario visit cities like Beijing and Jakarta. But Manila gets one of the lucky first stops of his trip, so don’t blame us if we fall in love just a little bit more.
