Generation selfie: Tell me about the Filipino Millennial
MANILA, Philippines - These days, there’s no reputation uglier than that of the Millennial.
Older, much wiser individuals have frowned upon this young generation’s growing list of offenses, often built on the Millennial’s desire for shameless self-promotion.
Okay, not to shine too much light on these young’ns, but the Millennial, too, is guilty of giving us the virtual cocaine that is social media, reality TV, and ridiculous language. (The next time you come across a Millennial, be sure to say thanks for the #selfie.)
And perhaps their biggest fault of all: they are guilty of wanting everything in an instant. Everything is an express version of something else, yet the Millennial remains impatient, constantly moving towards the next best thing. But this grim determination has also brought us overnight superstars, 20-something Silicon Valley CEOs, and raw talent that would’ve never seen the light of day in an earlier time.
This week in Young STAR, we learn more about the infamous Millennial through the eyes of its predecessors and from the voices of the generation that embodies this era’s spirit.
Perhaps in learning about the Millennials, what makes them tick and (quite cheesily) the contents of their hearts, we learn that there’s more to a generation than simply defining it. Like it or not, though, the year of the Me-llennial is upon us, and not to make it sound like a deadly plague, but it is here to stay.
