MANILA, Philippines — On Tuesday evening, the missing driver of transport network vehicle service Uber has been reportedly found dead in Cavite.

The body of Uber driver Christopher Namoca, 32, was reportedly found in a quarry site in Barangay Salawag, Dasmariñas, Cavite on February 27. He was last seen alive last February 2.

In light of news reports of Uber and Grab drivers gone missing and eventually found dead, Uber Philippines recently explained in an exclusive interview with Philstar.com on what the company is doing to ensure its partner drivers’ safety.

“Definitely, the safety of our driver partners is very important to us, so we have rolled out initiatives to make sure that we are also able to address their safety concerns,” Cat Avelino, Uber Philippines’ Head of Communications, said.

According to her, the company’s first initiative is through Rider Identification, a tech-enabled safety feature to enable riders with no digital payment methods to connect their ride to their social media accounts, so that Uber drivers can verify their riders’ identity via social media.

Avelino said the company has also recently partnered with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board to constantly remind and train the drivers how to identify suspicious behavior during their trips. — Video by Deni Rose M.
