1st Pagcor national art competition launched

- Ghio Ong, Helen Flores -

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) is calling for entries for its first national art competition with the theme “It’s more fun in the Philippines,” the country’s new tourism slogan.

Pagcor assistant vice president for corporate communications Maricar Bautista said the competition is open to all professional and non-professional painters in the country.

She said the competition aims to tap professional and budding painters “in coming out with beautiful pieces of artworks that will truthfully depict the colorful culture and undeniable beauty of the Philippines, the famed warmth and hospitality of its people, and the diverse activities that could be found in the country which will truly make one’s visit to the Philippines more fun and memorable.”

The professional category is open to all nationalities aged 24 and above, and must be residing in the Philippines during the contest’s duration.

The non-professional category, on the other hand, is open to all students aged 13 to 23 who are enrolled in a school, college or university accredited by the Department of Education or the Commission on Higher Education

“Apart from the genuine amiability of Filipinos, we have one of the world’s seven wonders of nature — the Puerto Princesa Underground River in Palawan — some of the best beaches and natural scenic spots, and the most lively, colorful festivals being celebrated in different parts of the country during various times of the year,” Bautista said.

Bautista said Pagcor will choose 10 finalists for each of the two categories.

“We will have a total of six grand prize winners. The three winners in the non-professional category will each receive P50,000 cash plus trophy, while the three winning entries in the professional category will each be rewarded a cash prize of P75,000 plus trophy,” she said.

On the other hand, the seven non-winning entries will each get P5,000 (for the non-professional category) and P10,000 (for the professional category).

Bautista said the criteria for selecting the finalists and winning entries will be based on adherence to the theme “It’s more fun in the Philippines,” overall impact, color harmony, technique, and composition.

Deadline for the submission of entries is June 15. Entries should be executed in full color using oil, pastel and watercolor.

“Since we want the entries to be original and exclusive to Pagcor, all entries to be submitted should not have been entered in any other art or design contest, and must have never been published commercially,” Bautista said.

Entry forms are available in all Casino Filipino branches nationwide and may also be downloaded from www.pagcor.ph.

The official artwork entry and documentary requirements may be personally delivered or sent via courier to the Concierge Section of any Casino Filipino branch or to the Pagcor Corporate Communications Office located at the sixth floor of Hyatt Hotel and Casino Manila, MH del Pilar corner Pedro Gil Sts., Malate, Manila.

For complete details on the contest rules and mechanics, visit www.pagcor.ph or call the Pagcor CCD at (02) 247-1049 or 242-0121 local 622 or 629.
