AboitizPower kicks off 2011 Cleanergy Sailing Series

-

MANILA, Philippines - AboitizPower Corp. launches its 2011 Cleanergy Sailing Series with the Philippine Hobie National Championships this weekend.

The event will be held at the Taal Lake Yacht Club in Talisay, Batangas.

AboitizPower, through Cleanergy, its brand of cleaner and renewable energy, is sponsoring the sailing series as part of its commitment to support events that both encourage healthy living and inspire people to be mindful of how their lifestyles affect the environment.

“The Cleanergy Sailing Series’ first event for the year is going to be a really exciting one. We expect a high caliber, competitive turnout consisting of three teams from our Philippine National Sailing team, three of Hong Kong’s top Hobie 16 sailing teams and more than a dozen teams from Taal Lake Yacht Club,” says Rex Puentespina, chairman of the Hobie Nationals Organizing Committee.

Hong Kong’s Hobie sailing team will be led by its national team member, Tong Shin. The Philippine team, meanwhile, will be in top form after its impressive second place finish at the Mirror Dinghy World Championships in Albany, Australia.

Making the competition even more exciting is the participation of Taal Lake Yacht Club’s top A and B fleet sailors, including the 2010 Nationals Championship team of Eric Tomacruz and Werner Liepach.

Over 20 top local and foreign teams are expected to participate in the following categories: the Nationals (which is open to Filipino nationals and foreign residents of the Philippines); the Open; and Masters category (which is open to skippers above 45 years old).

The Cleanergy Sailing Series is organized by the Philippine Inter-Island Sailing Foundation Inc. and is also sponsored by Mobile 1 and Lifestyle Asia Travel.
