UP to host three-day event for ASEAN artists, academics

MANILA, Philippines — The University of the Philippines Diliman, Asian Center is set to host the three-day ASEANnale 2018 that gathers artists and academicians from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
The UP Asian Center is home to this year's ASEANnale, on February 28 to March 3.
The event, that happens once in every two years, brings together academics, filmmakers, multimedia artists and scholars from then 10-member states of the ASEAN.
"We believe that ASEANnale 2018 will enable us to perform our mandate of continuing the dialogue among peoples of Asia and in the process broaden, deepen and thicken the understanding of the region particularly in Southeast Asia through research and creative works," Joefe Santarita, dean of the Asian Center in UP Diliman, said in a statement.
The year's theme is "Capturing the Spirit of ASEAN in the Digital Times." Speakers from the ASEAN member-states will give a talk on the event's subthemes diaspora, disasters and democracy.
ASEANnale will host the 1st Film and Multimedia Competition and Exhibition, 2nd International Symposium on ASEAN Studies and Distinguished ASEAN Award for Higher Education.
Ambassador Elizabeth Buensuceso, permanent representative of the Philippines to the ASEAN; Elaine Tan, ASEAN Foundation chair; UP president Danilo Concepcion and Commission on Higher Education OIC Prospero de Vera III will open the three-day event.
ASEANnale 2018 is a project of the CHED, UP Open University, UP Diliman Asian Center, UP Diliman College of Mass Communication, UP System in collaboration with UP Open University Foundation Inc. and the Philippines Communication Society.
