CS Lewis once said, “It’s funny how day by day nothing changes. But when you look back, everything is different.”

I felt this in my heart as I celebrated my second pandemic birthday via Zoom. It was a very intimate gathering organized by Jayelles president Roselle Rebano alongside DMark Beauty Corporation CEO Nikki Tang. I was extremely touched as each one of them shared their birthday messages as well as personal anecdotes on how we met and their favorite memories of me.

I was also surprised by my wife, children, and grandchildren, who had gathered birthday greetings from friends and relatives and presented this to me on the night of my birthday. A heartfelt testimonial from my dearest friend for over 80 years, Ambassador Jesus “Chuching” Tambunting, wonderful words with a special song number of Two for the Road from Jose Mari Chan, and the sweetest message from my wife, Tere, are just some of the highlights from my birthday video.

I am forever grateful to my family and friends for making me feel truly special on my natal day. Even if the pandemic has proven that so many things may change, the best of life still remains – family, friends, and love.
