Why retiring home is the best option for Bacolodnons
Bacolod City is the land sweetened by the smiling people and sugar plantations in Negros Occidental. It is also the best choice for retiring Bacolodnons.

Right after securing a bachelor’s degree or any higher education for that matter, most young, ideal and promising Filipinos in the provinces would move to Metro Manila in pursuit of a life in the big, bad city. Wishing to settle in and reach for their dreams, many of them could.

They would land a decent job, rent an apartment and maybe find the one they’d want to spend their lives with. They would adjust in their surroundings and transform as urban dwellers themselves. They would even start their own families and succeed in their careers or businesses.

But as they grow older and wiser over the years, they would long more and more for home. And as they near retirement, they would begin to ask, “Should I return home?”

In Bacolod City, the land sweetened by the smiling people and sugar plantations in Negros Occidental, the answer may be a resounding yes. Here are six reasons why:

1. In the company of family

Don’t worry about integrating yourself again in the community. Remember that a hometown will always be home—hence its name. It is where many members of the family never left, and where most relatives still choose to live.

2. Lower cost of living

As most places in the provinces, even those which are already progressive capitals and cities, cost of living will always be lower than that in the National Capital Region. But this doesn’t mean that it isn’t as pleasurable or comfortable.

3. Simpler but better

Just imagine retiring in agated community where each home offers exclusivity and privacy, safety and security; where surroundings are relaxing with lush and green sceneries; and where there is peace of mind because the stress and the worries of the city don’t exist.

4. The flavors of home

Back in their hometowns, retirees can enjoy the flavors they grew up loving, finding local delicacies in cafés and restaurants that have stood the test of time. How about buying the freshest goods and ingredients in the local market? And there’s always the possibility of receiving a pot of home-cooked dish from neighbors.

5. Good for the health

Rural towns remain less polluted compared to urban cities. Bask in the fresh air, walk along tree-lined paths and just dwell in the quietness. Don’t forget regular check-ups at the nearest clinics and hospitals. Do all this and surely maintain your good health.

6. Rest and recreation

While the top priority of retirees is to rest and enjoy the fruits of their labor after years of working hard, they also don’t want to get bored. As much as possible, they still wish to enjoy urban recreations like watching movies in the cinemas, dining out and shopping.

This is not far from reality in the provinces anymore as the country is experiencing unprecedented urban growth. If a retiree is lucky, his hometown may soon see a mixed-use development complete with posh residences, open spaces and retail establishments.

Take for example Bacolod City where Megaworld is building its first township at the capital of Negros Occidental.

To be developed at Northill Town Center is a tourist destination called the Bacolod Welcome Park where a 7.2-meter Welcome Marker will greet incoming visitors of the city. Megaworld/Released

To rise in northern Bacolod, the 53-hectare Northill Gateway will seamlessly integrate residential and commercial developments in a single community. It will be located along the new Circumferential Road, giving it direct access from the new Bacolod-Silay International Airport.

Right at the heart of Northill Gateway is Forbes Hill, an upscale and exclusive residential village at 15 hectares space. It will offer only 197 lots ranging from 499-square meters to 861-square meters, and feature a private clubhouse with a multifunction hall, a fitness center, game and entertainment rooms, audio and visual room, an outdoor lap pool, children’s pool, a gazebo park, and a basketball court. A courtyard garden entrance with a tiered fountain in the middle will greet future residents.

Part of the township is Northill Town Center, a 7.5-hectare horizontal development that will house mostly stand-alone, two-story structures of retail shops and dining establishments. It will be surrounded with landscaped leisure parks and open spaces.

Also to be developed at the town center is a tourist destination called the Bacolod Welcome Park. Here, a 7.2-meter Welcome Marker will greet incoming and outgoing visitors of the city. Symbolic of the city’s MassKara Festival, its design will feature colorful masks that will illuminate at night. Beside the marker will be a visual representation of the capitol building, the seat of power of Bacolod City government.

Without a doubt, Northill Gateway will become a community where everything is within reach.
