Fifty Shades Darker had Minotti pieces on set,” said Alessandro Minotti, grandson of the founder of Minotti. That would have made it so much more comfortable shooting those scenes.

At the Minotti showroom in Bonifacio Global City, there was a large sofa called the Lawrence, one of the Rodolfo Dordoni-designed highlights of the Home Anthology 2017 collection, on sale for P2.5 million.

What does it feel like to sit on a sofa worth that much? Like you’re freaking Christian Grey, or Daniel Craig, who also filmed on a Minotti-designed set in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Designer Calvin Klein and Beyoncé had their homes fitted with Minotti pieces, too.

Minotti’s low-key but plush and sophisticated aesthetic is undeniably fit for the movies. In real life, Minotti pieces are a real treat.

“We encourage our clients to really use the pieces,” says Ferdie Ong, general manager of Living Innovation, the exclusive distributor of Minotti in the Philippines.

This was after we made a note of how Filipinos love to “protect” their furniture (with plastic wrap!) to the point of not enjoying them at all. To ease any worries, Living Innovations offers dry-cleaning services, so clients can have their wine and sit on their Minotti sofa, too.

At the launch of their new collection, Alessandro and Paolo Nardini, general sales manager for Minotti, gave us a tour of the BGC showroom. Aside from the Lawrence sofa, which is the star on display, a massive marble piece called the Song coffee table from the Jaques collection, caught my attention. It’s made of pure white Calacatta marble with soft gold accents; I immediately imagined all the nice flatlays I could do on it.

Calacatta marble, of Italian origin, is one of the most desirable marbles on the planet. It is rare and is only available in one quarry in the world. Several smaller pieces, such as side tables, are also topped with Calacatta marble.

The Jacques collection includes sofas and ottomans in different sizes, all in curved, retro silhouettes finished with modern metals. The “Grand Jacques” sofa is the perfect balance between traditional and contemporary, and has a comfortable depth and numerous cushions.

The Lawrence “Clan” is a seating system with a classic-modern spirit, built upon generous but sleek shapes. The one-piece seats feature stitching in graphic, square-shaped designs. The elegant metal perimeter frame with black-nickel finish emphasizes the formal aesthetic of the Lawrence sofa, which is the ultimate expression of bespoke design — a quality inherent in every Minotti piece.

The Colette armchair takes inspiration from mid-century elegance. The profile of the external structure is metal, assembled and welded at more than 300 points, with a special finish achieved through galvanization in a white-gold bath, followed by the application of a transparent protective coating. The structure of the seat is made of polyurethane foam with metal insert and elastic straps to ensure comfort.

Colette “Outdoor” is an armchair with an enveloping shape that can take the place of a human hug. The metal backrest accommodates a soft cushion that makes it even more comfortable. It is available in four colors: sand, sunflower, khaki green and rust, and two heights that can be paired with the ottoman of the same name.
