PBA stars Rico Maierhofer & Willy Wilson share the joys of finding an ideal family lifestyle

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) players are celebrities in their own right. With their hectic schedules, players in the league are all the more discerning about the type of home and neighborhood that they will choose, not only for themselves but also for their growing family.

This insight had actually come from PBA forwards Willy Wilson and Rico Maierhofer of Barako Bull Energy, who have since found their ideal lifestyle at DMCI Home’s Mahogany Place at the Acacia Estates in Taguig City.

For both players, physical and mental pressures are part of their busy day as they train hard to win for the team. But as family men by heart, a good home to raise the family is more important and even more so, the possibility of spending quality time with their kids.

“I always find time for the kids in the afternoon, after I get back from training. I take them out for a stroll around the village or to the playground,” says Willy. “We like this place for being spacious and quiet. The secure environment is also a selling point because my son likes to run around.”

Willy has a daughter and a son, namely Keliya who recently turned five; and Cameron who will be turning three years old in December. With his wife, former courtside reporter Maria del Rosario, Willy bought their three-bedroom house and lot at the recommendation of their friends, one of which is Maierhofer and his wife, TV host and actress Jeck Conwi.

Asked why PBA athletes choose Mahogany Place 3, Willy explains that the development’s edge lies in its value propositions that cater to traditional family living.

“I’m pretty traditional when it comes to family. I like to play around with the kids and relax at the end of the day. We also like hosting relatives when they visit. The village is conducive for family life. But the price is not as high,” explains Willy.

Willy averred that the subdivision’s prime location is ideal as well. The Acacia Estates’ township is easily accessible from the Bonifacio Global City and Makati Central Business District. Through the C5 road, traffic can also be avoided when the athletes had to go every weekday early morning to the PBA training court in Pasig.

The couple was further attracted to the modern look of the houses and the overall quaintness of the neighborhood that reminds them of villages in California where Willy grew up.

In the same way, the cozy ambience reminds Rico and Jeck Maierhofer of their childhood hometown in the province of Puerto Galera and Laguna, respectively. The couple moved in the subdivision two years ago, right after they got married.

“We discovered the place through Jeck’s best friend, who recommended the clubhouse as the venue for our prenuptial photo shoot,” recalls Rico. “We immediately liked how private and peaceful it is, especially since we plan to have kids.”

At present, their sons Tash, 10 years old, and Calel, two years old, are growing up well in the child-friendly community. Soon, the brothers are going to be joined by a new baby that their parents are expecting this December.  “Together, we wanted to upgrade our lifestyle for our growing family, and Mahogany Place 3 has been the perfect choice,” beams Jeck.

The subdivision is a haven of convenience for the family because of its location, as well as for the variety of merchants established within the township.

“Aside from being near city centers, daily essential stores can be practically walked from where we live. There’s the AllHome one-stop shop for home necessities, a SaveMore grocery, Elorde Boxing Gym and a dental clinic nearby, to name a few. The Acacia tents are perfect for birthday or christening parties. Everything is right here,” she remarks.

Both the Maierhofers and the Wilsons have solid investment in the community where they live in. The residential development hosts a variety of activities throughout the year to tighten the bond between homeowners and make for a more harmonious enclave.

In line with this, the Wilsons are part of the Homeowners’ Association. Willy is a member of the security committee and Maria works with the site enhancement group. Wilsons and Maierhofers also contribute to community development by helping provide more convenience shops along the area. They are business partners to several establishments such as ‘Sari-Sari’ Café in Cedar Crest Clubhouse,  Recoverytec Spa (home service), Mestizas Laundry Expert and Every Juan’s Pharmacy located near Acacia Estates.

The Mahogany Place 3 makes family life more meaningful especially for stars of the PBA who lead busy lives against the limelight of the basketball court. Nestled at the township of Acacia Estates in Taguig, the residential enclave is another testament of DMCI Homes’ world-class craftsmanship and community development, which takes anchor on Consunji’s 61-year track record in residential construction.
