‘Celebrations: 32 Years of Christmas Concert at the Pen’ today
(The Philippine Star) - December 12, 2015 - 12:00am

MANILA, Philippines - The Peninsula Manila’s annual festive concert heralds the official start of the Christmas season. The 2015 festive event is in aid of ‘Hope for the Philippines,’ a charity, which provides homes for families affected by Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda and enables them to stay together.

This year’s concert, “Celebrations: 32 Years of Christmas Concert at the Pen”  will be held today,  from  5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Lobby of The Peninsula Manila.

“Our holiday program offers an opportunity to hear music for the holiday season by some of the world’s greatest composers like Handel, Verdi and Tchaikovsky, as well as those from the Philippines,” says the Peninsula Manila’s resident manager Yves Thoma.

Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, Strauss’ Radetzsky March and Shostakovich’s Festive Overture together with Christmas selections from Handel’s Messiah” —   including the Hallelujah Chorus will be performed by the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra and the 50-voice University of Santo Tomas Singers.

“We are fortunate every year to have as our partners SSI Group Inc., Philippine Tatler and Citibank , as well as the Cultural Center of the Philippines in mounting a holiday season concert filled with joy and hope,” adds Thoma. “Without their help and the generous assistance of concertgoers who will be asked to contribute a P 1,900 consumable fee (exclusive of taxes) that comes with selections from a festive merienda menu, the hotel would not be able to raise the money needed for the ‘Hope for the Philippines’ fund.”

Maestro Ruggero Barbieri will team up with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra. Also joining them are Rachelle Gerodias (soprano) and Byeong-In Park (baritone). Freddie Santos is the concert director.
