'You can finally rest in peace': UP grad passes 2025 Bar on first attempt
MANILA, Philippines — A University of the Philippines graduate has passed the 2025 Bar Examination on her first attempt, fulfilling a promise she made to her father during their last conversation in 2017.
In a social media post after the results were released, Anna Mae Yu Lamentillo recalled how she carried her promise quietly and determinedly over the years.
“Eight years ago, in 2017, my dad and I had our last conversation. Before he passed, I promised him I’d become a lawyer. I’ve carried that promise with me ever since—quietly, stubbornly, even on the days I wasn’t sure I could finish what I started," she said.
She added that her review continued even while abroad.
“I brought law books with me to Oxford and studied in between everything because I couldn’t let that promise fade,” Lamentillo said, noting that she thought of her father throughout the exam.
“Today, more than 8 years later, I finally get to put Atty. before my name. Dad, I kept my word. You can finally rest in peace,” she wrote.
Lamentillo earned her undergraduate degree from UP Los Baños in 2012 with Latin honors and received the Faculty Medal for Academic Excellence. She completed her Juris Doctor degree at UP Diliman College of Law in 2020.
Between law school and her work at the Department of Public Works and Highways, she pursued executive education at Harvard Kennedy School in 2018 and completed her MSc in Cities with honors at the London School of Economics in July 2025. She is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Major Programme Management at the University of Oxford.
