MANILA, Philippines - So much for watching a zombie series.

A 23-year-old man from New Mexico allegedly killed his friend because he thought he was "turning into zombie."

According to a report by KOB 4 News, Daniel Perry, who is currently facing murder charges, told Grants Police that he was drinking while binge watching "The Walking Dead" when his friend, Christopher Paguin  began to appear like he was turning into a zombie.

"The Walking Dead" is a popular AMC TV series set  in a post-apocalyptic setting overrun by zombies.

According to the report, Paguin tried to bite Perry, so he started to punch and kick his friend. He also mentioned using kitchen knives, electric guitar and microwave to kill him and stop what he believed would be a zombie apocalypse.

He then threatened to kill other tenants before he was stopped by workers and officers.

Based on the initial investigation, Perry has no history of mental illness, which is why officers believe that his action was sprang by alcohol and probably his imagination.

"I do believe his story behind this is true,” Lead detective Sgt. Moses Marquez told KOB 4 News.

"He genuinely felt that his friend was changing into a zombie due to his inebriated state.  Our department is dealing with something that I have never seen or heard of in my entire 13 years here," added the detective.

Perry is currently held  on an $800,000 cash bond at the Cibola County Detention Center.
