What drives Francis Kong to inspire others

MANILA, Philippines - What Francis Kong has taken on is no easy task: inspire Filipinos to "level up" and have the boldness and confidence to compete globally.
It is a task that the one-time vendor of dried pusit in Alabang has taken with sincerity and commitment.
"When I was my kids' age, I never imagined I'd be doing training, Later on I discovered that it feels so nice to be able to impart knowledge. I figured out that we may all not have equal opportunities in life and equal money, but then there's no limit to the level of seriousness and the intention of wanting to grow. It's really up to the individual," the multi-awarded motivational speaker shared with Philstar.com, an hour before he took the stage to the "Inspiring Excellence" event at the SMX.
The event also featured PLDT's Butch Jimenez, actor-turned-motivational speaker Chinkee Tan, and lawyer Alex Lacson.
Kong looks to his own children as examples of how Filipinos, especially the young, can excel in their own fields.
"My son Brian now has his four restaurants within 2 years. My daughter is carving a name for herself in the field of fashion design. She's doing wedding gowns. She's just about two years home after her study in Paris. If my kids can do that, how comes Filipinos, how come most of us are not doing it?"
He said that being in the business industry himself has given him to the unique advantage to see "patterns of challenges."
Kong is the president of Success Options Publishing Company and FunWorks, Inc., which franchised the Canada-based Mad Science program. He is also a consultant to many top corporations in the country and the director and founding member of Inspire Leadership Consultancy.
"Number one, Filipinos are so creative and talented, but we just have to level up a little bit more, get out of our shell and have the boldness and confidence to compete globally. Secondly, there are still many weaknesses that we still have in our minds that we need to remove. For instance, many people are still thinking that if I'm working I'm just there for the money. I don't have to work that hard since I'm paid the same anyway," The Philippine STAR columnist and long-time radio host said.
What Filipinos need to learn, he said, is "to give more than what you're paid for."
"When you give more than what you're paid for, you get more and be paid more eventually," Kong said.
"What inspires me is how to challenge young people in their young minds to use their talent and their competitive advantage to bring progress for the country. What inspires me is that I need to inspire others at the same time," he concluded.
