Alba Restaurante Español comes to MOA

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Señor Anastacio de Alba’s authentic Spanish cuisine comes to the Mall of Asia (MOA).

Alba Restaurante Español opened its fourth branch in the country on Wednesday at the 4th level of Prism Plaza in TwoEcom, Harbor Drive at the MOA Complex.  The opening coincided with Señor Alba’s 60th year in the Philippines and the launch of ‘The Alba Cookbook.’

The restaurant seats 180 people in a cozy ambiance reminiscent of a traditional restaurante with charming Spanish lamps, decorative plates and colourful murals.

Old favorites like its extensive collection of tapas (about 50 different kinds of bite-sized appetizers); 18 different paella varieties that include favorites like the Valenciana, Negra, and Filipino; entrees like the Callos, Lengua and Cochinillo; and other Spanish meat and seafood dishes.

60 years of Spanish culinary expertise

Señor Alba first set foot in the Philippines in 1952 and before long was consumed with his dream of sharing a part of Spain and its cuisine with Filipinos.

He put up several restaurants, immediately impressing most of Manila’s social circles and discerning diners with his signature recipes foremost of which is the paella, thus making Alba Restaurant “The Paella Authority”.

Because of his unparalleled contributions in promoting Spanish cuisine in the Philippines, Señor Alba was conferred the Order of the Cross of Isabel Medal (La Cruz de official dela orden de Isabel la Catolica), one of the highest recognition given to any Spanish national signed and awarded by King Juan Carlos I of Spain.

Now 86, the dean of Spanish cuisine is happy to pass on the culinary “torch”  to his son, Chef Miguel, who he declares “will surely continue the Alba tradition for another half a century or more.”

Alba Restaurante Español’s other branches are located at  the  38 Polaris St., Bel-Air, Makati, Tomas Morato corner Scout Lozano, Quezon City  and  at Westgate Center, Filinvest, Alabang.
