Peabo Bryson has been singing professionally since 1976 and he has no intentions of slowing down.

In town last week for a Valentine show, the two-time Grammy award winner spoke about his passion, golf (he once missed a chance to play with acting legend Sean Connery because of a show), his new focus in life, and how he stays in the best physical shape to help him in his career.

PHILIPPINE STAR: What can people expect from your show?

PEABO BRYSON: Well, as always, we give 150 percent! We'll leave blood on the dance floor and blood backstage. That’s what we do. We aim to entertain. We need to give people artistry. We aim to give people a personal touch. I'm going to get out there in your face and it’s going to be up close and personal. We do what we do on a very fine level.

You're into golf?

If you’re a golfer you’re going to meet strangers and you’re going to meet them well, because golf is probably the biggest fraternity on the planet. If you walk into a plane and you say, “ I just played the best round of golf today; I shot a 66,” at least a hundred people you’ve never met before will ask if you really shot a 66. Or if you said, “I played 18 holes with Sean Connery," everybody will be asking, “ What was he like, did it happen, how did it happen?” They won’t need to know who you are; it’s just that you’re a part of their fraternity.

You were saying that your priorities have changed?

Yes, it has; I have a five-week-old son now. My wife is ecstatic, because that’s what she wanted. Which means for the time being, less time on the golf course.

Talk to us about your training regimen. How do you stay in shape?

What I do, my entire life, is I’ve been a runner. I’ve always run and I still do. It’s my philosophy that your body is meant to be in motion. As long as there is motion, then your health is going to at least maintain or improve in some way, shape, or form. You know, keep your body in motion.

Also, everything related to health these days is about food. What we eat, what’s in the food that we eat, who made it, how’s it made, how good, how was it grown, what did they use? These are the questions that everyone has to train themselves to ask. It doesn’t make a difference if you’re trying to be an athlete or you’re trying to be anything. If you’re trying to be healthy, research your food before you put it into your body. I even stopped drinking things like milk. I do as little dairy as I can and I don’t do fried foods.
