Fitness coach suggests this 4-minute exercise for the holidays

Alixandra Caole Vila - Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines — While exercising is easy to cross out on your holiday "to do" list, shedding off the extra pounds you get from eating and slacking is a real challenge.

Let's face it. Between Noche Buena and Media Noche, it can be pretty tough to stay active during the holiday season. Good thing Coach Toni Saret of Milo R2-APEX Running School has suggested a four-minute workout routine that you can squeeze in during the busiest time of the year.

Skechers Performance Division partnered with the Milo R2-APEX Running School to teach people to run more effectively and go like never before. During one of their training workouts, Philstar.com interviewed with Saret to ask about how people can stay fit amid the holiday festivities.

So, if you are bereft of time, space and resources, she strongly suggests this classic signature four-minute workout  for you.

Do these in 10 repetitions per exercise until four minutes is done:

  1. Jumping jacks

  2. squats

  3. Pushup

  4. Lunges

Saret told Philstar.com that  the routine alone can jack up your heart rate. And because of its effectiveness as a fitness exercise, it is vouched for by the Philippine Heart Association.

"With that kind of workout, no one has any excuse to say that you don't have time because it's only 4 minutes. No one would say walang equipment because body weight lang ang ginamit mo," Saret explained.

Coach Saret, together with Coach Jim has been teaching in the Milo R2-APEX Running School since they have established it six years ago. Since then, they have helped countless of athletes develop their skills and achieve a better experience on the road by introducing them to a revolutionary approach to running with elite training workouts and running principles based on sports science.

For the holiday season, Saret suggested that to be able to control weight gain, you should always "keep moving."

But contrary to what everyone does, she said you do not have to wait for the festivities to be over before getting on that exercise.

"The best thing to do is just this early on, get moving and get active. Why wait for the holiday season to be over if you can lose weight starting now?" Saret said.
