MANILA, Philippines — This year is a milestone for food giant, CDO Foodsphere, as it celebrated its 45th anniversary last June with an unveiling of its refreshed identity and a new tagline, "Food that Brings You Home.”

The small business started by husband and wife, Pepe and Cora Ong, from their very own kitchen is now part of every Filipino household here and abroad.

As this year continues to be challenging for Filipinos, CDO as a company has thought of ways to help them make it through. One of them is the Million Meats Project.

The Million Meats Project, a collaboration between CDO and its partners, aims to produce and distribute one million canned goods to thousands of families who need help during these difficult times.

When quarantine measures were enforced, many lost their jobs and had limited access to food.

CDO reached out to local government units to aid in the distribution of products to the most affected communities. The first LGUs to receive cans of meatloaf for families who needed support were Malvar in Batangas, Valenzuela City, and Malabon City.

To date, a total of 360,000 cans have been distributed to over 65,000 households, and there are more scheduled in the coming months.

CDO recognizes that families deserve to have meaningful mealtimes—one that strengthens the bond between them and celebrates each other’s strengths.

This is an important step for all of us in order to heal as one and recover strongly as a nation. During these times, there should be no empty plate on the table.

“We take it as a privilege to have been entrusted with this endeavor,'' said Charmaine Ong-Castro, senior vice president for Purchasing and Treasure at CDO and lead of the Million Meats Project.

''It was even more gratifying when our other suppliers took part in the initiative and aided the project. Everything about this project is collaborative and came as a contribution,” she concluded.
