World Street Food Congress cancels this year’s event

MANILA, Philippines — It is official. This year’s World Street Food Congress will no longer push through.

The organizing community of the WSFC announced the cancelation of the anticipated food event on its Facebook page on Tuesday.

“Under circumstances beyond our control, and on behalf of event presenter, The Tourism Board of Philippines (TPB), it is with regret we announce their decision to cancel this year’s World Street Food Congress 18,” the organizing committee of the WSFC said addressing its patrons, partners, and associates.

The organizing body likewise apologized for the inconvenience the cancelation of the event may have caused.

The WSFC 2018 was supposed to be the third edition to be hosted by the Philippines.

In May 2017, WSFC founder KF Seetoh of Makansutra announced that Philippines would stage the 2018 edition of the food event.

Last year's street food congress was headlined by renowned international and Filipino chefs as well as international food TV personality like Anthony Bourdain. Thirteen countries also participated to showcase their famous street food.

The WSFC organizing committee said Makansutra will be planning ahead for the next edition.

Over the weekend, reports said TPB has also canceled gastronomic event Madrid Fusión Manila.

Philstar.com last Sunday sought comment from the Department of Tourism on the cancelation but spokesman Frederick Alegre said the project is now with TPB. The board has yet to release a statement.

Madrid Fusion Manila, regarded as “the single most important international gastronomy congress in the 21st century,” was supposed to be held in Manila this month.

The DOT announced in January that the country would host the event anew.
