MANILA, Philippines — The University of the Philippines will not administer its college admission test (UPCAT) for the second year in a row due to the COVID pandemic.

The memorandum issued by the UP Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs said the admissions model used for this year will be utilized for academic year 2022-2023.

The university councils across the UP system, the highest policy-making bodies of each constituent university, voted overwhelmingly in favor of suspending the UPCAT due to the “immense logistical challenge of administering UPCAT in the UP campuses and 95 testing centers throughout the archipelago while the trajectory of the pandemic remains uncertain.”

The UP system officially opened its application portal in October.

The composite of the final grades in Grades 8, 9, 10 and 11 shall be the basis to determine qualification to enroll in lieu of the admission test.

UP said that some degree programs may set additional requirements to qualify for admission if necessary.

It noted that UP considers socioeconomic and geographic factors in its admission process.
