MANILA, Philippines — Kapamilya actor Piolo Pascual believes choosing fashionable shoes does not mean someone needs to spend a lot of money.

In a recent Figlia Uomo event where he is the new endorser, Piolo gave tips for men on how to choose the perfect shoes.

“I guess what’s important is comfort. First of all you’ve got to be comfortable. You don’t want walking around limping. You don’t want bruises on your feet,” Piolo shared.

“Secondly, it has to be practical. Something you can wear for a long time, not just once or twice. Then another thing is it has to match with what you’re wearing.”

For Piolo, shoes complete the look you want to achieve. He also said he loves white shoes.

“I love white. I don’t know why. I always go for white sneakers, whether casual or formal,” he maintained.

Uomo, which means “man” in Italian, is the first shoe collection from Figlia for men, as the brand has been known for creating shoes for women.

The brand said they tapped Piolo as their endorser because the actor is the epitome of a stylish and well-dressed man.

With Christmas fast approaching, thinking of gift ideas for one’s loved ones may be hard because of many choices in the market.

Here are some options for every personality seeking to stand out in their party OoTD (outfit of the day) or OoTN (outfit of the night).

For the beauty queen

Miss Universe Philippines 2017 Rachel Peters recently graced the opening of American lifestyle brand Tory Burch’s new boutique opening at the Power Plant Mall in Makati City. This further extends the brand’s presence in the Philippines, where it already has three retail locations: two in Makati City and one in Mandaluyong City. The new store is currently the brand’s largest in the country. To celebrate the opening, the boutique will offer several pieces from the fall 2018 collection that are exclusive to the Power Plant location.

The store’s façade has been designed to be clean and modern, with minimal brass detailing, large windows, and light boxes featuring seasonal print campaigns.

In keeping with all of the brand’s stores, the interior has been designed to create a residential feel. Oak panel walls, cane tables and brass étagères offer a neutral backdrop for a sophisticated mix of furnishings, including leopard rugs, mocha-striped drapes, and banquettes covered in an exquisite floral inspired by Tory’s home in the West Indies.

A wide assortment of the brand’s collection will be available at the Power Plant Mall boutique, including ready-to-wear, handbags, shoes, watches and fragrance. In addition, the exclusive fall product includes a patchwork caftan in the season’s key floral Happy Times print, two Gemini Link handbags and the Scallop Sneaker in pink and navy.

For the sporty cutie

In time for Mickey and Minnie Mouse's 90th anniversary, Lacoste, which also celebrates its 85th anniversary this year, introduces its new Disney collection. Photo release

Lacoste and Disney unite for a unique collaboration, which brings together Mickey & Minnie Mouse and the Crocodile, who celebrate respectively their 90th and 85th anniversaries. The souvenir capsule collection offers something for adults and children.

Mickey Mouse, the “True Original,” and his sweetheart Minnie have inspired the brand-new collection, consisting of nearly 30 different nostalgically designed items of clothing, sneakers and leather goods, which are decorated with bespoke character artwork and icons.

In addition to embroidery, Lacoste innovates with 3D printing and expert piqué applications to redraw the profile of these two timeless and universal figures in a modern way. Faithful to the two worlds, the color range uses conventional shades such as navy blue, white, heather grey, pale pink and touches of green combined with brighter colors such as a clear blue or a brilliant red.

To complete the look, the range includes canvas sneakers in adult and children’s versions. White and decorated with a black Mickey Mouse silhouette on the heel, they come with an all-over print for young children. This collection combines fashion and emotion for a comfortable and stylish look back in time and are now available in all Lacoste stores worldwide.

For the romantic eclectic

Inspired by the concept of Japonisme, the overarching mood for the season is romantic, yet playful and eclectic at Josie Natori, a brand that has continued to build upon the rich craftsmanship and bespoke details for which the New York-based Filipino designer has been known for. The collection, however, addresses the need to dress the modern woman for all aspects of her life, with an introduction this season of more casual separates.

Exclusively available in Rustan’s Makati, Rustan’s Shangrila and Rustan’s Cebu, Natori ‘s color palette and fabrications this season are decidedly “season-less,” and therefore, more versatile.

Softly-tailored twill, cotton poplin, and knits in velvet and cashmere blends contrast nicely with dressier satins, velvet devore and signature silk and jacquard prints. Playful colorations give the collection an eclectic spirit showcasing daring juxtapositions of color such as gilded mink green with Duchess rose.

Fanciful pops of color include orchid pink, persimmon and imperial violet. Adding to the eclecticism is the emboldened embroidery statements of the season: A femininely embroidered lightweight twill duster coat, a stand-out “peacock” beaded satin bomber jacket, and all-over embroidered statement coats. Other key silhouettes include asymmetrical tiered skirts and dresses, all over lace blouses, and embellished t-shirts. One-shoulder styles ranging from tops, to dresses and jumpsuits add an element of modernity.

The peacock emerges as the seasonal icon, a creature defined by beauty, and historically a symbol of wealth, beauty and rebirth. Fine ostrich feathers are applied on obi belts, and as trimming on asymmetrical hemlines.

For the wacky

Long-time college friends Ali Sangalang and Panch Alvarez were workmates back in 2012. Ali, a writer; Panch, a visual artist. Trying to fight off daily feels and frustration from work, both friends sat down at a local restaurant to sort things out.

To address their creative slump, the solution was quite simple: go back to basics. Ali, a class clown; Panch, a cartoonist who drew mischievous caricatures of his teachers. On a lined blank notebook, Ali wrote his one-liners, and Panch matched it with his doodles. They shared it online and the followers started piling up. It didn’t take long until their Linyas were turned into shirts and other products.

Fast forward to 2015, the duo had a meeting with musician Jim Bacarro (Ali’s friend back in grade school) to discuss expanding the Linya-Linya brand, which now dreams to connect to a wider audience, share tears of joy and laughter with people, and through its original words, art, and concepts, significantly contribute to Filipino culture and society.

Now available in Gateway Mall, SM Megamall, Market! Market!, Glorietta 1, Trinoma and Alabang Town Center, among others, Linya-Linya now offers shirts, stickers and other novelties for kids and kids at heart. — Reports from Deni Rose M. Afinidad-Bernardo
