Eight Golden Globes red carpet fashion trends
Adding to the drama at this year’s 74th annual Golden Globe Awards were the fashion scenes on the red carpet.
There were unexpected winners, like Isabelle Huppert as Best Actress for the drama, “Elle,” but there were also surprise outfit choices, such as Carrie Underwood’s “What was she thinking?” ruffled pink dress.
From androgynous looks, like women in tuxedos in memoriam of David Bowie, to cold shoulders and cropped tops, the stars' ensembles stayed classic but with hints of the following trends.
Neo-nomad
The culprits behind the primitive, bearded look —Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio—came in clean-shaven, but other actors followed their lead at this year’s awards: Best Actor for Motion Picture and Drama Casey Affleck; Best Actor for Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy Ryan Gosling; Best Actor for Limited Series or TV Movie Tom Hiddleston; and a Chris Pine that resembled Star Wars' Chewbacca more than his Star Trek character, Captain James Kirk.
The plunge

Plunging necklines show a lot of skin, which is a sign of youth. But Best Actress for Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy Emma Stone dug deeper to show her pallid décolleté in a silver-studded Valentino.
A low-cut, baby blue Prada gave just the right amount of sex appeal to Jessica Chastain, who was nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture for “Miss Sloane.”
A sleeker Mandy Moore made sure she showed "moore" of her figure in a caped Naeem Khan black dress. Gina Rodriguez’s ample bust display was another proof the awards was not short of chest to show this year.
Velvet

After Lady Gaga’s black velvet Atelier Versace appearance last year, this year, Blake Lively stepped in style in a black velvet Versace.
Likewise, Teresa Palmer was in a black velvet, cold-shoulder dress from Armani Atelier. At the Golden Globes party, Jessica Biel was spotted in husband Justin Timberlake’s arms also wearing a black velvet, cold-shoulder dress, this time, by Manning Cartell.
Silver linings
Silver embroidery added extra wattage to Emma Stone’s nude Valentino, while Millie Bobby Brown was named as among the best-dressed for her fringy silver frock. Others who stunned in silver included Ruth Negga in Louis Vuitton and Dakota Johnson in fifty shades of metallic grey Chanel.

Too many pinks marched this year – from Stone’s blush Valentino, to Zoe Saldana’s romantic, two-tone Gucci, to Lilly Collins’ and Felicity Jones’ fairytale gowns.
Cropped tops
After Kate Hudson flashed her toned abs last year, Sienna Miller rocked the tummy peek-a-boo this year.
Cold shoulders

Sofia Vergara showed off her tanned shoulder blades best in a Zuhair Murad piece, while Nicole Kidman highlighted hers in a silvery white Alexander McQueen. Drew Barrymore and Sarah Jessica Parker also shone in white gowns with cut-out shoulders.
Canary yellow

Greenery is the Pantone color of the Year. Best Supporting Actress for Motion Picture Viola Davis, Natalie Portman, Reese Witherspoon, and Kerry Washington were among those that begged to disagree as they were seen lit-up in sunny hues. They sure give justice to a song made famous by Coldplay, which will stop over for a concert in Manila this summer.
