Cream under or over powder?

STYLE S.O.S. - The Philippine Star

DEAR RISSA,

I want to use a cream blush. Should I apply it under powder or over my powder?

MARIE

As a general rule for makeup products, you apply cream over cream and powder over cream. If your routine starts with liquid foundation and concealer, apply your cream blush before you set everything with powder. Applying cream blush over powder will disturb your makeup look because you’ve “set” it already. If you’re going bare-faced, cream blushes can be applied directly onto your skin. It doesn’t last very long, though. The nice thing about cream blushes is that they’re easy to blend and all you need is the warmth of your fingers.

Hair that works

DEAR LUCY,

My hair is naturally wavy, and I do not have time for a blowdry every day before I leave for work. But how do I look polished? I have clear skin, though, although I also do not really know how to put on makeup.

KAT

When your hair is in its natural state, and you have neither time nor skill to do something about it, you can pull it back into a high ponytail. If your hair is cut well, though, you can just apply a light product and scrunch it up in a way that looks intentionally dishevelled. Very chic. To pull this off, wear a bold and bright lip. And you need not know how to put on eye makeup — if you have clear skin, you can get away with it. Just use finely milled face powder to mattify the T-zone a bit, and choose blush that is of the same color as your lips. Instead of gloss, use full color. To make it last, apply, then blot. Repeat 2-3 times. When the time comes that you learn to emphasize your eyes, do the reverse and choose a neutral lip.

If I were you, I would invest in a good haircut with specific instructions to the pro that the style must be wash-and-wear and as low-maintenance as possible.
