Skin breakouts can be allergic by nature

STYLE S.O.S. - The Philippine Star

DEAR LUCY,

I am using a skin regimen that is supposed to make my face flawless, but I seem to be breaking out all the more, especially on the chin area. Results are supposed to be guaranteed, but I am worried that my skin is just plain and simply irritated, and is not compatible with the products I am using.

GRACE

I asked a dermatologist and, generally speaking, breakouts that are specific to an area are brought about by different factors. Chin breakouts are hormonal and/or stress-related, forehead is because of sleep deprivation/not enough rest, the cheeks because of an adverse reaction to cosmetics. It is best to be assessed professionally. When you submit yourself to a skin expert, be sure to disclose the specific brand of products you are using. While it is true that sometimes a skincare regime can make the skin worse before it gets better (they say it is part of the cleansing process, drawing out impurities), some reactions might very simply be allergic by nature. Sometimes, for chin breakouts, the cure can also be as simple as switching to a non-fluoride toothpaste. I hope this helps.                                  LUCY

Makeup lasts longer with a primer

DEAR RISSA,

Do all skin types need a primer?

DENISE

No matter what your skin type is, it will benefit from a primer. The primer serves two purposes: to help makeup glide better, and to act as a barrier between the skin and makeup. Do you notice how they say some women’s faces tend to “eat up the makeup” (kinakain ng mukha nila yung makeup)? That’s because the porous skin easily absorbs the makeup. With the help of a primer, you can make your makeup look last all day and night. If you find a primer heavy, try to find lightly tinted primers. Double-duty products like these act as a primer and as a light veil of coverage. As with all products, it’s always best to set it with your favorite pressed or loose powder.
