Where fashion and technology meet

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - It is not every day that the world witnesses the seamless combination of design and technology in a single device. Such a device was unveiled by big screen pioneer Samsung last Sept. 1, highlighting the marriage between design and innovation and proving how this collaboration can result in beauty with a purpose — most evident in its latest flagship phablet devices, Samsung Galaxy Note5 and Galaxy S6 edge+.

In collaboration with Fashion and Design Council of the Philippines, an interactive digital fashion show, the S Carpet: Fashion and Inspiration, illustrated the marriage of style and technology, in support of Filipino artistry and creativity.

The show opened with pieces by Avel Bacudio, James Reyes, Ivarluski Aseron,
Vic Barba, Joey Samson and Anthony Nocom under the white pearl collection. As a tribute to Samsung Galaxy Note5’s all-new design and the maximum productivity that the all-powerful S Pen brings its users, a video was presented showing the designers sketching their designs on the Galaxy Note5.

The elegant metal finish of the Galaxy S6 edge+ was mirrored in the silver titanium and gold platinum collection featuring designs by Jerome Ang, Joel Escober, Ramon Esteban, Gerry Katigbak, Pablo Cabahug, Kristel Yulo, Ronaldo Arnaldo, Happy Andrada, Hizndy Tantoco, and Noel Crisostomo.

As a fitting finale, Dong Omaga-Diaz, Frederick Peralta, JC Buendia, Jojie Lloren, Randy Ortiz, and Albert Andrada showcased their own take on the traditional terno to celebrate Filipino artistry and make a statement on how technology can reinvent something traditional into something modern.

Samsung also recognized the fashion and art industries’ best of the best, with Inno Sotto getting the first-ever Samsung Noteworthy Award for his unmatched achievements and one-of-a-kind creations.

Today’s trailblazers were also recognized for their great contributions which continue to shape and influence their respective fields for the better. The Edge Maker Award went to Bianca Gonzales, Iza Calzado, Xander Angeles, Liz Uy, and Ingrid Chua-Go.
