Matching eyebrow with hair color

STYLE S.O.S. - The Philippine Star

DEAR RISSA,

I recently colored my hair to an ash blonde shade. I love my new look, but my dark eyebrows look so off. Can I color my eyebrows to complement my new hair color?

 LUISA

For people who have changed their hair color dramatically, you should alter your brow color, too — but only subtly. Arches that match exactly your hair color can look fake. Choose a color a few shades lighter than your natural eyebrow hair. A dark brown shade that looks more natural is more flattering. But light brown shades tend to all the more brighten up the face. But be careful not to go too light. If you do, your eyebrows disappear and highlight lines and wrinkles surrounding the eye area.

You can have your colorist tint your eyebrows to complement your new hair color, but be careful because the chemicals in these products are very strong and may cause burns if you get them on the sensitive skin of your face. I feel safer and more comfortable using products meant for the brows. This way, I can also easily go lighter or darker with my eyebrows anytime I need to. Try Maybelline’s Fashion Brow 24H Coloring Mascara. It comes in three shades: dark brown, yellow brown, and red brown. The yellow brown hue is more like a blonde color which nicely lightens dark Asian brows like ours, brightening the face. The spherical-shaped brush is perfect for getting the right amount of product on your brows and taming them in place.

When entertaining at home, opt for style and comfort. Get yourself a pair of really chic and comfy Repetto flats.       Photo from sinfullysensational.com

Accessorizing a white lace dress

DEAR LUCY,

How do I wear a white lace dress so that it does not look like I am part of a wedding entourage? It is long with an A-line skirt, made of cotton, and really pretty. What shoes and accessories should I wear?

What do I wear also when I am entertaining at home? I really want to wear heels, but I doubt I will last the night. By evening’s end, I will be so weary.

STEFFI

Do not wear pearls with your white lace dress so it does not look saccharine sweet. You can wear turquoise beads or a coral necklage, wedges. If you are not keen on wearing a necklace, then you can wear chunky gold jewelry. The direction should be to deviate from making it look in any way dainty and sweet. You can wear a bold lip for an unexpected punch of color.

When you are entertaining at home, opt for style and comfort. As a hostess, I presume you will be running around a lot, making sure all is as it should be. Painful feet should be the last thing you should be thinking about. Get yourself some Repettos or Roger Vivier has some beautiful satin flats. As a hostess, you can still look put together and not disheveled.
