The terno’s unfading beauty

STYLE S.O.S. - The Philippine Star

DEAR LUCY,

I need to wear a terno to a wedding, but I don’t like ternos! How can it be reinvented?

EMMA

I think the terno is beautiful. How should it be reinvented? Well, the designers are very creative. They’ve tried making it shorter, the sleeves made to look more modern, but personally, I like it the way it is — structured, elegant, distinct. The terno should not go in any direction just so it can be different. It is a classic that must be embraced, and celebrated. If you have not worn one yet, go give it a try. Chances are you will love the way it falls, and hopefully, along the way, you will also appreciate the embroidery, the bones, all the little details that go into every terno that make it the beautiful work of art that it was meant to be.

Lastly, do go to a good seamstress for your terno. Design is good, but fit is just as important. LUCY

Peel good: Cure Natura Aqua Gel is said to be Japan’s number 1 exfoliator. So popular, it was chosen as a gift at the 81st Oscar Awards! Now exclusively available at Beauty Bar.

Once more with peeling: Exfoliation is a must

HI, RISSA,

I would like to use a facial exfoliant but at a loss as to what brand I should use. What’s a good brand? TIFFIE

Exfoliation is a must in one’s routine. As our skin grows new cells, it casts off the old. These dead cells tend to clog the pores, causing spots and blackheads as well as making the surface of our skin look dull and grey. Exfoliating is a mild form of peeling that helps remove these flaking cells, revealing clearer and softer skin beneath. Plus with a new clean and clear layer, your skin creams and moisturizers can penetrate better, faster, and more effectively.

I’m loving right now Cure Natural Aqua Gel (available at Beauty Bar). It’s touted to be Japan’s number 1 exfoliator where a bottle is sold every 12 seconds. I’ve heard about this years back from a brand manager of one of the biggest beauty brands — she actually dreamed of bringing it in. It’s now finally available in Manila.

Cure is the gentlest yet most efficient exfoliant I’ve tried. It is preservative-free, mineral oil-free, coloring-free, artificial fragrance-free and is 90% made up of water. With a freshly washed and towel-dried face, apply a dab of gel on your fingertips and massage this onto your skin in circular motions for 30 seconds. It’s amazing how you can actually see and feel all the dead skin cells! You really see evidence of impurities removed! Cure gently removes 0.01mm of dead skin which makeup removers and facial cleansers cannot. I loved how my face felt velvety smooth and looked clear and bright after using it.

The cool thing about Cure is that it can be used for the body as well. It can remove dead skin on any part of the body! It makes fingers and cuticles look like they had a nail spa. One famous Japanese magazine even wrote about its whitening effect. Yes, it can also help whiten and brighten skin on areas like the knees and elbows! RISSA

Don’t leave home without it: If there’s one thing you must absolutely do for yourself this summer, it’s to wear sunscreen whether or not you’re hitting the beach.

Hot beauty tips for summer

HI, REGINA!

Any extra tips for staying beautiful this summer? What should I be worrying about?   CARLA

1. SPF, baby! If there’s one thing you must absolutely do for yourself this summer, it’s to wear sunscreen whether or not you’re hitting the beach. (And if you are, reapply every two hours or after swimming; a teaspoon of something non-comedogenic for your face, and enough to fill a shot glass for the rest of your body.)

2. Condition your hair. Harsh sun, saltwater or chlorine, all these summer elements equals horrible haystack on your head. If you can condition daily, just from mid-strands to ends, you’ll be doing yourself a favor.

3. Keep it light. And by “it”, I mean everything! Go for a lighter formula moisturizer, switch out from foundation to BB cream or tinted moisturizer (or nothing at all! No worries about sweating it all off, right?) and less makeup. (Lip and cheek tints are enough, really!)

4. Pop your shades on when you’re out, if you don’t already. They protect your eyes (and the delicate skin around them) from sun damage. Plus, if you’re squinting less in the glaring sun, maybe, just maybe, you won’t develop those tiny wrinkles as quick.

5. Hydrate. Heat and humidity are a huge drain on your body, so drink as much water as you can. Quit soda long enough and you discover that water’s really all you need to quench your thirst.                                                REGINA
