Shampoo your hair without water

STYLE S.O.S. - Lucy Torres-Gomez, Rissa M. Samson, Tingting Cojuangco -

Dear Rissa,

Is there a “dry shampoo” available for women who cannot shampoo their hair because they cannot wet their head at the moment due to fever, illness, etc. but wish to clean their hair? Also, is there an easy way to get smooth shiny hair without using smoothing serums? I dislike using products because they tend to weigh my hair down.

Ria A.

A friend who just gave birth recently was also asking me about dry shampoos. Dry shampoo comes in handy not just for bedridden patients but also for traveling or camping, when there’s no access to water or you are just in a big rush.

Those that I knew of could only be found abroad, but I recently stumbled upon one right here in our very own Rustan’s. In the beauty section, I found Jonathan Green Routine Dry Shampoo (P895 at Rustan’s), an all-natural hair powder that cleans and refreshes the hair without the use of water. How does it work? It absorbs oil, dirt, and product buildup, which is brushed out, leaving your hair cleaner and lighter. The powder also helps create volume at the roots and the built-in brush makes application easy. The small size and spill-proof packaging make it convenient to toss in your purse, overnight bag or gym bag — perfect, too, for an instant hair retouch before a big date. The best thing about it is that it’s not tested on animals and is 100-percent vegan — no petrochemicals, synthetic fragrances, parabens, phthalates, and silicone.

While at Rustan’s, also make sure to look for the Braun Satin Hair Active Ion Brush (around P2,500). If guys have their gadgets, we girls do, too! Thanks to its active ion technology, this brush gives instant shine and smoothness to the hair, tames frizz, and fights static, all at just a push of a button. It’s no wonder this gadget was named the 2010 Product of the Year in Germany and Netherlands. And unlike other hair gadgets, this is 100-percent portable (no need to plug it) and runs on just two AAA batteries. Such an awesome kikay tool — I wouldn’t mind getting this under the tree for Christmas.

Rx for dry, chapped lips: Use an old toothbrush in small circular movements to lift off dry skin.

Bye-Bye, Dry Lips

Dear Ms. Tingting,

I need help with my dry and flaky lips that this cold weather is causing. Please give some remedy to take.

Dhey

Dry lips love a scrub. Use an old toothbrush in small circular movements to lift off dry skin and then slap on lots of petroleum jelly.

If your lips are dry and flaky, lightly wet them and then press on a piece of cellophane tape. Gently peel off and all the cracked bits of skin will come away, too.

If you suffer from very dry lips, apply a non-greasy lip balm rather than a moisturizer, which isn’t designed for lips and will just make matters worse.

To add color to dry lips, mix some of your favorite lipstick with a little lip balm using a lip brush, and gently dot onto your lips with your index finger.

No-fuss hair: With Evita Peroni’s Destiny Double Comb, you can have a messy ’do that looks sophisticated.

Perfect Hairstyle In A Hurry

Dear Lucy,

How do I get the perfect hairstyle in a jiffy? There are too many events to go to this season and there’s no time to have my hair fixed each time. Help!

Alice

The good news is, nowadays, the perfect hairstyle is ironically imperfect. I love how casual it all seems, and the idea really is to make it look like you just did it yourself. To achieve the look, you must use pretty hair accessories because if you don’t, you defeat the whole purpose and you will end up looking shabby. Go to Evita Peroni, which has all the hair accessories you will ever need. Be sure to get Sharks, Double Combs, even their beaded soft headbands are beautiful. Check out their hairsticks, too. I can never have enough of them! With Evita Peroni, you can have a messy ’do that looks sophisticated, or sexy plaits that look adorable. Go there, ask a lady to assist and teach you how to play with accessories. And never leave without their catalogues, you will get a load of ideas there!
