Walking tall with Parisian at SM

-

MANILA, Philippines - Shoe fashion has long had its ups and downs, with both high heels and flats making their own style statements at different points in time. This season, Parisian, the iconic shoe brand, takes the high road with its collection of high-heeled shoes at SM.

Catherine de Medici is credited with making high heels a fashion item when she wore two- inch heels on her wedding to the Duke of Orleans, making her every inch the great queen she was to be.

In modern times, it was Christian Dior’s collaboration with shoe designer Roger Vivier in the 1950s that led to today’s iconic pointy-toed stiletto heel. The style dominated the 1960s when this became popular on tall boots. The 1970s gave way to the platform shoe. High heels returned in the 1980s and the 1990s when designers like Manolo Blahnik brought well-heeled trendy shoes to the catwalk, to Hollywood, and eventually to the everyday woman.

Today, women have more shoe choices than ever before, from flipflops to athletic wear to the 2006 “heelless” high heels from Manolo Blahnik. But high heels continue to walk tall, influenced by successful TV and movie hits like Sex and the City and The Devil Wears Prada.

More than that, high heels are associated with sex appeal, power, dominance, as well as elegance, fragility, and femininity.

Step into high style with the Parisian collection — satin platform pumps with embellishments, mesh accented pairs with ribbon details, very velvet platform pumps, and pretty braid strapped high-heeled sandals.

Photographed at the elegant interiors of Luxuria Homestyle and Living in Makati, the Parisian heels and platform collection is available at the Ladies’ Shoes Department of SM Department Stores.
