Pore richer or pore poorer
Dear Rissa,
I’m in my mid 30s and what’s bothering me is that the pores on my cheeks are getting bigger. Can you recommend a cosmetic product and treatment for this?
Pore Girl
The skin contains countless pores which act as channels for oil secretions from the sebaceous glands and exude moisture and impurities from the sweat glands. Open and blocked pores are a common problem in coarse, oily skin but can be found in dry skin, too. Open or large pores can be hereditary and when oil and dead skin cells build up, pores become more noticeable and can result in the formation of blackheads and whiteheads. No product can permanently close large pores, whether it’s an astringent or a splash of cold water. But there are products that help dissolve the grease and oil which clog the pores — cleanse, tone, and moisturize. A good skincare regimen helps prevent the accumulation of oil. Regular exfoliation also helps remove dead skin cells which can also clog pores. To care for your skin, I recommend The Face Shop’s Pore Minimizer range (stores located at Bonifacio High Street, The Fort; Glorietta 2,

Go With The Glow
HI, LUCY!
What eyeshadow you do use that has a bit of sparkle in it and do you know of a gold lipstick or gloss that would flatter any skintone?
ELSIE
My current favorite in terms of eyeshadows that have a bit of sparkle in them is Chanel’s quadra eyeshadow in #78 Blue Notes (available at Rustan’s). I love that it has a blue in a denim shade, a soft pink, a silver, and a white. Basic colors that you can use alone or blended together. Plus, yes, there is a bit of sparkle in it. Another one I am loving is Make Up For Ever’s Star Powder and Diamond Powder (available at Shangri-La Plaza Mall; The Block, SM North EDSA; and Marionnaud, SM Mall of Asia). And lastly, I have the perfect gold gloss for you — Sisley Phyto Lip Star in sparkling topaze (available at Rustan’s Essenses).

Affordable Scar Cure
DEAR TINGTING,
I’m 24 years old and I had this allergy two weeks ago that left mini scars on both my legs. I’m using baby soap and a whitening lotion right now. Hope you can advice me on the best soap or lotion to use to lighten or, if possible, help me get rid of my scars. Of course, please recommend only affordable products.
Scarsgirl
You may try Vaseline Intensive Care Lotion or Nivea Lotion — they’re both effective and cost less. Yes, baby soap is good, too — try Ivory, it’s gentle on baby’s skin and should be on yours, too.
