The Manila Hotel celebrates love for Mother Earth on Valentine’s Day
MANILA, Philippines — Valentine's Day is a celebration of love of all forms. For the management and staff of The Manila Hotel, it is love for the environment.
Last February 14, they commemorated the special day with a corporate social responsibility project aptly entitled "The Manila Hotel Loves Earth, Loves Life." This encompassed the hotel’s advocacy in planting of trees to save Mother Earth and commitment in contributing to a greener Manila.
Starting from home, expanding reach
The project kicked off at The Manila Hotel's grounds, which covers the planting of over a hundred young trees of various varieties at the hotel's periphery near its main entrance on Katigbak Drive, just across Rizal Park and proximate the Quirino Grandstand.
This is a busy thoroughfare traversed by cars and passers-by. It is also a place of wellness and recreation where joggers and exercise enthusiasts are a common sight.
"It has always been the management’s mandate that The Manila Hotel plays a significant role in community building. Being proximate to areas like the Rizal Park where people converge, we want to be able to provide a more conducive environment and promote the well-being of Manila residents and habitues, as well as our guests. In order to achieve this, we need to plant trees and we have to start from home," said Lawyer Joey Lina, president of The Manila Hotel.
"The Manila Hotel Loves Earth, Love Life" campaign aims to make Manila a sustainable green city. The tree-planting campaign path will soon extend to nearby communities.
As part of the next phase of growth, the hotel will be working with the Manila City government to identify these key areas of development and determine how best they could work together.
