LEDs invade market for Christmas lights

-

MANILA, Philippines - More and more people nowadays are discovering the convenience and versatility of using LED for their lighting needs. LEDs have been around for a long time, but only caught on for use as Christmas lights in recent years. One reason is that older LEDs originally came in only red. Incandescent bulbs, on the other hand, emit only yellow light but are encased in colored glass.

Another problem with LEDs was their lack of brightness. The potential was there, however, and advanced LEDs solved these problems. Today you can find LED Christmas lights in all kinds of shapes and sizes. They can blink just like the regular incandescent varieties and come in a wide range of colors.

LEDs are shaped much like incandescent bulbs except that they do not have a filament inside that can burn out and take the entire string of bulbs with it. Instead, they are illuminated by the movement of electrons in a semi-conductor material. Another benefit of this light source is the absence of excessive heat and wasted electricity, saving you money that you can use for other Yuletide activities like shopping.

One of the leading companies in LED that offers Taiwan-made high-quality standards is DSL GAM Enterprises, a dynamic company that produces decorative lighting for decorating buildings, homes and business establishments. DSL GAM Enterprises pioneered the use of Ropelight, electroluminescent light, LED Ropelight, LED neon Ropelight, LED aqua and LED wall washers and LED backlight strings, among others.

LEDs are generally preferable to light bulbs because they tend to last longer. Rather than encasing the LED in a colored lens, the colors of an LED are inherent inside the bulb so they don’t fade easily.

LEDs can also be easily programmed to produce chasing or blinking patterns, and they are quite durable, withstanding general shocks and repeated on-off cycles. They also emit minimal heat and don’t spark so they are not a fire hazard.

During Christmas, the types of LED lights used include the LED Christmas/Net Light, LED Wall Washer or Snow Drops and LED floodlight. LED Christmas lights are bright and offer great energy-saving features and long bulb life, allowing you to reduce electricity costs. LED net lights on the other hand are made of many light strings and can be easily shaped so they’re easier to assemble and remove. Widely used for outdoor landscaping projects, they can cover on the surface of various objects, making them look beautiful.

The LED wall washer is illuminated by using LED RGB technology with 256-degree gray-scale function. It is able to play in sync via an intelligent controller and is user-friendly enough, giving users the freedom to work with their own program when connected to a DMX controller. It is housed in a sealed, aluminum alloy for security and for optimum lighting effect; the angle or position of the unit can be freely adjusted. Another option worth trying are snowdrops, which produce stunning snow flurries and blizzard effects via white LED (WLED).

Finally, LED floodlights are also an efficient choice. Though their power level is generally only between 30 and 150 watts, their equivalent brightness is 70 to 250 watts of metal halide. One of the primary advantages of LED floodlights is that they use approximately 60 percent less energy than their incandescent counterparts.

One of the biggest advantages of LED lights is that they are typically much more energy-efficient than traditional lights. They usually use less than a quarter of the energy of incandescent lights and put off much less heat, which is essentially a form of wasted energy when it comes to lighting, so the less heat that gets put off, the more efficient the fixture. In addition to greater energy efficiency, LED lights also typically last one and a half to two times longer than incandescent versions.

LED lighting is available at the DSL GAM Enterprises store at 409 Juan Luna St., Binondo, Manila. To know more about LED, visit www.dsl-led.com or e-mail dsl.ent@gmail.com.
