BGC PassionFest highlights Philippine culture

MANILA, Philippines - BGC PassionFest, which is slated for the last weekend of November, features an array of world-class entertainment from multi-awarded Filipino artists such as the Philippine Opera Company, Gantimpala Theater Foundation, Tanghalang Pilipino and the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra with the Philippine Madrigal Singers. All performances are open to the public and absolutely free.

Ang Bagong Harana, an operatic musical revue featuring traditional and contemporary Filipino love songs and patriotic anthems by the Philippine Opera Company, kicked off yesterday at the Bonifacio High Street Grass Area. It runs until Nov. 30.

Sponsored by the city of Taguig, Gantimpala Theater Foundation staged Katipunan: Mga Anak ng Bayan, a pop-rock musical about the founding of the Kataas-taasan, Kagalang-galangan na Katipunan (KKK) during the 1896 revolution.

On Nov. 30 at 7 p.m., BGC PassionFest 2013 collaborates with Rock Ed to present “Rock Supremo,” a multi-media stage production featuring music written by today’s hottest bands and artists inspired by the life of Katipunan’s Supremo, Andres Bonifacio. Celebrating his 150th birth anniversary, the concert will feature musicians Kai Honasan, Peso Movement, Ebe Dancel and may others.

Tanghalang Pilipino’s Sandosenang Sapatos goes on stage on Dec. 1, 6 p.m. at Bonifacio High Street Central Ampitheater. The play tells of a Filipino middle-class household composed of a shoemaker, his wife and two children. The premise of its plot lies on the father’s dream to someday make the best ballet shoes for his daughter.

BGC PassionFest will be culiminated by the Kislap at Kutitap Concert featuring the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philippine Madrigal Singers. The show will also include the launch of “Symphony of Lights,” the annual Christmas decorations competition for all construction groups and buildings in BGC.
