Salcedo Auctions holds year-end auction marathon

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Salcedo Auctions in association with Citigold holds its first-ever one-day auction marathon to cap its sale calendar for the year on Nov. 16.

“A Day at the Auctions” presents items ranging from furniture, decor, silver, books, maps and collectibles, to signed jewelry and fine artworks by established and emerging names on the local and international art scene.

The bidding starts with “Connoisseur Collection” at 11 a.m., featuring artworks by Philippine masters and international artists including a lacquer on wood Nguyen Thanh Chuong and a limited-edition tapestry of the iconic “The Persistence of Memory” by Salvador Dali. There will also be a treasure trove of maps; sterling silver; pedigreed collectibles and objets d’ art by Baccarat, Steuben, and Meissen; and fine jewelry by some of the world’s leading houses including Cartier, Chopard, and Tiffany & Co. Other highlights include a rare large Hispano-Philippine ivory crucifix, circa late 18th to early 19th century, as well as a selection of wooden and ivory santos including a fine gilded San Vicente Ferrer from the 19th century in its original virina.

At 2 p.m., the best of contemporary Philippine art goes under the hammer in “Art Today.” Expect raised paddles (and pulse rates) as coveted works by Geraldine Javier, Elmer Borlongan, Mark Justiniani, Jigger Cruz, and Ronald Ventura are offered side by side with pieces by established names such as Danilo Dalena and Onib Olmedo. Three works in this sale of particular note include â€œBedroom” by Marina Cruz; â€œAng Huwad na Bernardo Carpio Pagkalipas ng Apat na Sigloan,”  an acrylic on burlap by Rodel Tapaya; and a masterful trompe l’oeil by Annie Cabigting, a homage to the installation artist Christo.

The finale will be “The Estate Sale” consisting of well-designed furniture by the likes of B&B Italia and Kenneth Cobonpue, an award-winning Bang & Olufsen turntable, fine art, multiples, books, and accessories from distinguished homes at 5 p.m. â€” an unparalleled opportunity for buyers new to the auction scene to experience first hand the fun and excitement of bidding and snagging that prized find at an exceptional price.

Preview for the three auctions at Three Salcedo Place is ongoing and runs through Nov. 15 at 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (till 4 p.m. on Nov. 16). View the online catalogues at salcedoauctions.com. For inquries, e-mail [email protected] or call 659-4094.
