'Paglipas ng Dilim' at UP Theater

-

The boastful Don Torcuato and Doña Carmen, the deceitful socialite Caridad, the pure-hearted Estrella, and the vulnerable Ricardo are the interesting characters in Precioso Palma’s and Leon Ignacio’s Paglipas ng Dilim, a sarsuwela which goes onstage on Feb. 4, 5 and 6, 6 p.m., at the UP University Theater in Diliman, QC.

The 1920 three-act play will be presented by the University of the East Drama Company (UEDC), the official student theater organization of UE, which was formed in the 1970s as a center for arts and culture in the university belt.

The group is under the artistic direction of Frederick Castro.

UEDC is an active member of the network of theater groups of Alyansa, Inc. (Alliance of Cultural Workers in Metro Manila and nearby Provinces, Inc.) and of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts-Committee on Dramatic Arts.

Paglipas ng Dilim is UEDC’s offering for the Sarsuwela Festival 2009, which is undertaken by the University of the Philippines Diliman, to provide a comprehensive understanding and appreciation of the sarsuwela as one of the country’s traditional theater forms.

For reservations, call 928-7508 and 981-8500 loc. 2105.
