Boys to men
MULTIPLE CHOICE - Luis Espiritu, Jr. (The Philippine Star) - June 24, 2017 - 4:00pm

Iconic men of fashion are immortalized not only because they’re impeccably stylish but because they have greatly influenced the art of dressing. From cinematic dashing debonaires and heartthrobs to rock stars and royalties, the list of über stylish men has created a plethora of individual styles resulting in a variety of looks that are currently relevant to contemporary menswear.

At the recent unveiling of Spring/Summer 2018 menswear collection in the ongoing Paris Fashion Week (Men’s), global brand Balenciaga showcased young dads and kids on the runway. The display does not only harp on family-oriented statement but it’s also a fashion statement of going back to basics.

In the Philippines, Debenhams honors boys and men with its latest season offerings. A wardrobe of basic casuals is influenced by hints of trends seen on the color palette, prints and silhouettes. Classics are reinvented with up-to-date styles that make every piece fit seamlessly into today’s men’s wardrobe. The idea is really to create a variety of looks for both boys and men that will complement their casual activity from the outdoors to lounge parties in style.

The fashion statement isn’t really flashy, but seriously uncontrived and naturally embracing one’s comfort of dressing. This current direction of retail of fashioning boys and men gives a sense of optimism on code of dressing. It subliminally promotes practicality and functionality in style as the pieces can be worn season after season. Classic basics with a twist become an investment as one can fuse them with upcoming trends or future fashion.

The relevance of contemporary fashion isn’t limited to the men of today but also to the boys who’ll be the men of tomorrow.
