American zoo will let you 'feed your ex' to animals this Valentine's Day
MANILA, Philippines — The San Antonio Zoo in Texas, United States is reviving their popular Cry Me a Cockroach Fundraiser for a fourth year where visitors can name a cockroach, rodent, or vegetable after their ex and have it fed to the zoo's animals.
All donations will see those who submitted will receive a digital downloadable Valentine’s Day Card showing their support for the fundraiser, and as an added option their exes could receive a similar card to let them know they "have been fed" to an animal at the zoo.
Naming a vegetable costs $5 (P275) which vary from romaine lettuce, cabbage, and other leafy greens, a cockroach costs $10 (P548), and a rodent costs $25 (P1,370).
The San Antonio Zoo clarified that they do not use live rodents, rather, the pre-frozen rodents are part of regular daily scheduled feedings while the cockroaches are sourced from professional breeders.

All funds raised, which must be donated before Valentine's Day, will "support the zoo’s vision of securing a future for wildlife in Texas and around the world."
The zoo said that in 2022, the most popular names submitted from 8,000 donations across 30 different countries were Jacob and Sarah.
