WATCH: Alex Gonzaga explains importance of putting lotion

MANILA, Philippines — Kapamilya actress Alex Gonzaga said it is important to regularly put lotion to the skin as it will prevent the skin’s melanin production, which leads to skin darkening. 

In an interview with Philstar.com, Alex shared what her doctor told her. 

“Sometimes you know may nakikita tayong makikinis at mapuputi, iisipin natin, ba’t ganon, hindi ako makinis? May nagsabi sa akin, actually a skin doctor told me, na sometimes when you don't put even sa elbow, ‘di ba minsan may mga spots ka sa elbows, sa knees, sabi niya, if you don’t put lotion, may magpo-produce daw ng melanin kasi it's not soft,” Alex said. 

Alex further explained that the doctor advised her to put lotion regularly, so her skin will feel well-hydrated and moisturized.

“Akala ng skin mo ‘yung part na ‘yun laging nagagamit, so mas dadami ‘yung melanin na ipo-produce niya sa part na ‘yon ng skin mo, so mas iitim siya. So sabi niya (doctor), that's why you always have to put lotion kasi ‘pag nararamdaman ng skin mo na you are well-hydrated, well-moisturized, ‘di na siya magpoproduce ng melanin,” she said.  

“Kasi yung melanin parang defense niya ‘yon for the sun. Kaya minsan the more nating gamitin ‘yung part na ‘yun, mas umiitim ‘pag may friction kasi nga nagpoproduce ng melanin. 'Ay sobrang ginagamit ‘yung part na to' so kakapalan niya,” she added. 

Apart from choosing a moisturizing lotion, Alex said it is also important to choose lotion with a scent that fits you. 

“Moisturizing and also sa scent kasi medyo ano ko sa scent. ‘Pag ‘di ko gusto, nahihilo ako agad,” she said.  

Among the lotions she tried, she said she likes floral ones like Block & White’s new Sakura White, for which she has been recently named as endorser.
