With the significant developments in the relations between the Philippines and Hungary, affirmed  by a good number of bilateral documents in the fields of education, trade, investment and tourism, the Embassy of Hungary reopened its doors in Manila in March 2017 after a two-decade hiatus.

Endeavoring to build further ties between Hungary and the Visayas, Ambassador Jozsef Bencze presented his official appointment documents, among them the consular patent  to Honorary Consul Enrilen Joy Benedicto Tan at a reception held at the Marco Polo Hotel  Cebu, recently. The consulate will represent the interests of Hungarian citizens in the whole Visayas region.

Guests at the event included government officials, members of  the Consular Corps, business and civic leaders and the active social circle.

In his brief remarks, Ambassador Bencze reiterated the growing  importance of the relationship between both countries and its potential as  reliable partners in trade and investment, research and education, cultural and people to people exchanges.

In her acceptance speech, newly appointed Honorary Consul  Enrilen Joy Benedicto Tan likewise assured the Ambassador and  the Hungarian citizens of her commitment to  strengthening the ties, facilitating trade, investment and goodwill between the two nations.

Honorary Consul Enrilen Joy Benedicto Tan, the daughter of Consul ad honorem of Belgium Enrique Benedicto and niece of Francisco Benedicto, Ambassador  Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Philippines ( 1986 to April 2011) holds several managerial positions in real estate, furniture, construction and agricultural firms and eagerly partakes and contributes  in the bustling business and tourism activities in Cebu.

Guests enjoyed an outstanding buffet of typical Hungarian specialties such as smoked herring, various sausages, smoked pork with sauerkraut, soured peppers and vegetable stew.
