All about guts

FROM THE HEART - Gina Lopez - The Philippine Star

Life is full of possibilities. One element of exploring life’s possibilities is guts. Actually, the existence of courage in our consciousness allows for life’s possibilities to emerge. And, this courage is fuelled by the heart.

One loves, one cares, one wants. This caring enables dreams to emerge in the firmament of one’s consciousness. The heart is amazingly powerful. When these “dreams “ emerge, it is the heart  that enables the courage to be, which turns dreams into reality. This has been my experience.

It is a fascinating process and gives tremendous joy. The saying, “No guts no glory” holds true —  and I am confident that it can be attested to by all institutions and individuals who have been able to fulfill their dreams and do great things.

So what is guts?

There are many situations where courage manifests. For me, the best manifestation is the one that comes from a vision of what can be — rather than a reaction to a situation — hitting back. The courage that emanates from vision is uplifting and positive. It unites, it touches and it inspires. It is essentially spiritual.

Silence and stillness are important. I meditate an hour and a half every morning — and even these are not enough. One needs to inculcate periods of reflection during the day to make sure that ones thoughts and emotions are not coming from off tangent spaces.

When I am with communities and asking them to work together, when I am in front of audiences — especially the youth telling them that if they dream big, they can do big — it feels like gold in my heart. I feel a joy and that joy spills over even after the talk.

I am planning a “build” where the United Architects of the Philippines of Cebu, the community, the church and even the military will work together to put up key areas in Kinatarcan. This fills my heart with joy, makes me feel like gold.

So what is guts? It’s the will to do what one believes in. Its always always positive — it has the ability to get people to connect to one another. It is the connection to one’s higher self. Life in reality is not segmented; not church on one side — and family, work on the other. Rather it  is one graceful flow — the key is to see, to feel life from that flow.

The work we do is absolutely connected to our sense of beingness — to our inner selves. If we get our inner self right, or if we continue to make an effort to get it right, this manifests in the work we do. My experience is that higher realms of consciousness in fact exist. Living by principle gets us in touch with these higher realms.

I am going to end this piece by saying what I often say: Why do we have to die to go to heaven? Why can’t we bring a piece of heaven in our lives?

The way to do that is to feel the “heartness” that exists, to let that “heartness” have a vision of what can be — and then, more importantly, to have the guts to do what one believes in.

If all well-meaning people — with “heartness” and courage in their hearts — inspired by a vision of what can be united, then there is absolutely no way our country will not see a brighter future.

Through “heartness” and courage aligned with truth and justice, each one of us can lead very high-quality lives.

As the song goes, “I believe I can fly.”

Flight needs “heartness” and it needs guts.

So, lets have the courage to dream — and then have the courage to fulfill those dreams.

No guts, no glory.
