MANILA, Philippines - Pinataob ng dalawang Petron squads ang kani-kanilang karibal upang pangunahan ang listahan ng mga semifinalists kahapon sa 2017 Belo Philippine Superliga (PSL) Beach Volleyball Challenge Cup na ginaganap sa SM By the Bay sa Mall of Asia sa Pasay City.

Inilampaso nina Sisi Rondina at Bernadeth Pons ng Petron Sprint 4T sina Mylene Paat at Janine Marciano ng Cignal B, 21-11, 21-9 habang natakasan nina Frances Molina at Bang Pineda ng Petron XCS sina Abie Nuval at Wensh Tiu ng Cocolife, 20-22, 21-14, 15-13.

“We tried our best to adjust to the weather condition in the first set. Fortunately, we managed to get our rhythm in the second set before going for the win in the third set. Cocolife was tough. But we used our experience (on sand) to our advantage,” wika ni Molina.

Ito ang unang pagkakataon na naging magkapares sina Molina at Pineda na naging kampeon na sa UAAP beach volley tournament.

“They may be young, but they are overflowing with experience in playing beach volleyball. We have to be ready. It’s going to be a tough battle,” ani pa ni Molina.

Paglalabanan naman nina reigning champion Jovelyn Gonzaga at Maica Morada ng Cignal A at nina Danika Gendrauli at Jacquelyn Estoquia ng Sta. Lucia ang nalalabing tiket sa semis gayundin sina Fiola Ceballos at Patty Orendain ng Generika A at nina Bianca Tripoli at Marijo Medalla ng University of Perpetual Help sa kani-kanilang quarterfinal matches.

Sa men’s division, sinorpresa nina Cignal HD pair Edmar Bonono at Erickson Ramos sina Generika-Ayala duo Anthony Arbastro at Calvin Sarte para masiguro ang tiket sa finals.

Tinalo rin ng HD Spikers sina Mike Abria at Edwin Tolentino ng SM By the Bay, 21-9, 19-21, 15-8 habang ang Lifesavers ay namayani kina Rey Taneo at Relan Taneo ng University of Perpetual Help A, 21-10, 21-17, sa crossover semifinals.
