'Opong' makes landfall in Oriental Mindoro; signal warning still up in NCR, other areas

MANILA, Philippines — Severe Tropical Storm Opong has made landfall over Mansalay, Oriental Mindoro and is now heading toward the West Philippine Sea, the weather bureau said on Friday, September 26.

In its 2:00 p.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said Opong is moving west, packing maximum sustained winds of 110 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph.

The cyclone is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) by Saturday, September 27.

Gale warnings 

PAGASA issued a gale warning over the seaboards of Southern Luzon. VIsayas and the western seaboard of Central Luzon. 

Waves as high as 9 meters are expected in several areas. A gale warning is in effect in the following areas. 

• Up to 9.0 meters:  The seaboards of Oriental Mindoro and Occidental Mindoro
• Up to 6.0 meters:  The seaboards of Batangas, Quezon, Romblon, and Marinduque
• Up to 4.5 meters: The seaboards of Zambales, Bicol Region, Calamian Islands, Cuyo Islands, Western Visayas, Negros Occidental, Bantayan Islands, Camotes Islands, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran; the western seaboards of Cavite and Bataan; the northern and western coasts of Leyte; the northern seaboard of Cebu
