May 15 heat alert: 23 areas at ‘danger’ level — PAGASA

MANILA, Philippines — Twenty-three areas across the country may expect extreme heat on Thursday, May 15, the state weather bureau PAGASA said.

In its latest heat index bulletin, PAGASA placed several areas under the “danger” classification, with forecast heat index values ranging from 42°Celsius (°C)  to 43°C.

The following areas are under the “danger” heat index:

  • Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas: 42°C
  • Baler, Aurora: 42°C
  • Casiguran, Aurora: 42°C
  • Catarman, Northern Samar: 42°C
  • Central Bicol State University for Agriculture – Pili, Camarines Sur: 42°C
  • Coron, Palawan: 42°C
  • Cubi Pt., Subic Bay, Olongapo City: 42°C
  • Dumangas, Iloilo: 42°C
  • Iloilo City, Iloilo: 42°C
  • Laoag City, Ilocos Norte: 42°C
  • Mambusao, Capiz: 42°C
  • Masbate City, Masbate: 42°C
  • NAS-UPLB: 42°C
  • Puerto Princesa City, Palawan: 42°C
  • Roxas City, Capiz: 42°C
  • Sangley Point, Cavite City, Cavite: 42°C
  • Tuguegarao City, Isabela: 42°C
  • Aparri, Cagayan: 43°C
  • Bacnotan, La Union: 43°C
  • Dagupan City, Pangasinan: 43°C
  • Iba, Zambales: 43°C
  • San Jose, Occidental Mindoro: 43°C
  • Tayabas City, Quezon: 43°C

Other parts of the country fall under the “extreme caution” category, with heat indices ranging from 33°C to 41°C, while some areas are under the “caution” level, with temperatures between 27°C and 32°C.

PAGASA urged residents in affected areas to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure during peak afternoon hours and refrain from strenuous outdoor activities to prevent heatstroke and other heat-related illnesses.

ITCZ, easterlies

Two weather systems may also bring cloudy skies and scattered rains across the country.

Mindanao, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Eastern Samar and Palawan may expect cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone.

PAGASA warned residents of these areas of possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to, at times, heavy rains.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies.
